SMALL WONDER 2014 COVER IMAGE
Client: Charleston Trust September 2014 PROJECT BRIEF To create an arresting image for the cover of the Small Wonder 2014 programme that reflects the nature of the festival. PROJECT WORK I intricately assembled a 3D model of a hummingbird from wood, paper and polystyrene. The whole assemblage was then covered in paper 'feathers'. Each feather had been individually cut out from specially selected relevant words and sentences from pages of a penguin paperback edition of Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. A real hollyhock flower was then used against the backdrop of slate grey paper, and the model hummingbird was secured in position by a hands-free magnifier alongside the flower. The finished composition was photographed in high resolution and edited in Photoshop, then resized for the A5 portrait dimensions of the programme cover, leaving room for title, dates, logos and event details. ABOUT THE CLIENT The Charleston Trust is a charity set up in 1980 to restore and maintain the home of the Bloomsbury Group artists for the benefit of the public. The Small Wonder Short Story Festival is a series of author presentations and reading events held at Charleston Farmhouse. |
